Rhododendron Study

These rhododendrons were almost larger than life. I was painting on location (plein air) with my Southern Ladies Art Conference buddies at Calloway Gardens near the Butterfly House. Several people that were walking on the Rhododendron Trail stopped and took pictures of me painting these flowers -- my shirt was the exact same color as the flowers! How fun was that!!!



Lily Pond Study

These lilies and pads in a pond near the Butterfly House at Calloway Gardens were absolutely stunning. Gentle breezes would make them sway just every so slightly. You could be mesmerized just sitting and watching them.  I was painting with one of my buddies from the Southern Ladies Art Conference plein air group during the spring when I saw this pond and painted two Lily Pond paintings -- one study and one slightly more distant view.


The Fans Have It

These fans were so wonderful, I had to share them in a painting. The pottery piece is a recent purchase to go along with my other pottery collection! The little figurine was something I have had for probably 30 years and was perfect because she is holding a fan. This was a lot of fun.


Aqua & Red: Red Series #3

This still life was set up at home with antiques I have collected and loved over the years. I collect vases and old jewelry and incorporate them in my paintings when possible. There is a red partially-open rose located in the upper portion of this painting between the two white buds that just did not photograph well against the red background -- but believe me it is a wonderful addition and surprise in this painting.


Swordsman Red: Red Series #4

The flower arrangement was a gift I took home from the Swordsman Ball held in the Atlanta Area to benefit the Heart Association. I thought the greenery included with the gerber daisies and zinnias was quite interesting. The other items are some of those antiques that I love to collect.


Three Sunflowers

I love to buy fresh flowers, set them up and then see what they inspire. These flowers show two different types of sunflowers and I thought they needed to be large. That's what sunflowers do! Get large. Even though the background looks black, and it is, there is quite a bit of dark blue also. It is framed in a gorgeous black mat, with a gold filet separating the painting from the mat, and then surrounded by a beautifully detailed black frame with a touch of gold along the inner rim. It is quite striking.
