A New "1st Place" Show Winner!
"Where The Spirits Dance"

This is an acrylic painting done on two 4'x3' gallery wrap canvases for a total size of 4'x6' for a show called "BIG" which was juried by the Tannery Row Artist Colony located in Buford, GA. It was quite an honor to have my painting win this 1st Place! There were many wonderful pieces of art that were deserving. I was quite surprised!

My First "Best In Show"!

"Sunflower Tango" won "Best in Show" at the Southeastern Pastel Society Member's Juried Exhibition being held in Stone Mountain, Georgia, at the Art Station. The Show will be on display until Saturday, August 18, 2007.  I also won an "Honorable Mention" for "Pathway Thru The Dunes", which is from St. George Island, Florida.  Be sure to go see this wonderful show if you are in the Stone Mountain Village! Of course, this photo does not really do justice to the painting!!!! You can click on the painting shown here to see a little larger version of it.

And . . . in Europe!

"Golden Opportunity", a plein air painting done in North Georgia, was accepted in the "Salon International Du Pastel" held in Yvetot, France by the Art Du Pastel En France (the pastel society of France). The show was held mid-March thru mid-April. The Society chose 120 paintings from this international show to be shown in Giverny, France . . . and . . . my painting was one of the chosen ones!!!! How exciting to be exhibiting in France! This is a wonderful opportunity for me.

My France Trip Was Wonderful!!!!

This painting was done on location in the village of Dixmont. When you click on the image, you will be taken to the gallery page showing all the plein air paintings and the studio paintings I am doing from some of the 1500 photographs that I took while I was there.

The three-week trip was wonderful and hopefully I will be able to return to La Bonne Etoile in the future. I am also creating a journal page (or pages!) from my trip. Look for it in the future! I am on about day four of the trip -- typing it into the web site is tedious. But . . . it is copied from the handwritten journal that I kept every day while there. I will put photographs from some of our adventures along with the day-to-day adventures!!!!!!!

On Sunday, July 23, I left for the three-week retreat in Fontaine-Fourches, France -- the retreat is La Bonne Etoile.  I and 5 other artists painted for two weeks about 60 miles Southeast of Paris in the country. My husband arrived and spent a third week with me.

I expected to bring home in the neighborhood of 40 paintings, but only brought about 20 home. It rained several of the days and the wind blew quite forcefully. Of course, since these are "plein air" they are usually no larger than 12" x 16".  Some days we traveled for a half-day trip, but painted on the way . . . weather permitting. And other days we did a full day trip for sightseeing and photo opportunities!

Past Events
Talk about "chosen moments! Please be sure to see the magazine "Pastel Journal" for December, 2004. I am one of several artists recognized and quoted extensively in the article, "A Clear-cut Guide to Framing". There are three of my paintings featured along with photos of the framing techniques: "Biltmore Oaks #2", "Florida Farm" (a plein aire painting), and "Regal Oak". It is quite an honor to have any paintings shown in the Pastel Journal. This is one of the premier magazines for the artist community, much less those artists that paint in pastel. Maggie Price did a great job writing the article and incorporating many aspects of framing pastels -- long thought to be one of the hardest jobs of a pastel artist. Take the time to buy a copy at one of the book stores and read what I have to say about framing. Hope to hear from you if you do. Always interested in comments!

Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Association Auction

The Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Association (706-632-2144) holds a silent and live auction each year to benefit their organization. In the past it has been held on the weekend of Memorial Day and in conjunction with the Arts in The Parks Festival. The past few years it has been held its own weekend, usually around the middle of June. All proceeds benefit the Arts Organization. This is an extremely fun event and you could bid and win something wonderful. There is usually a theme for the evening, such as "Monet's Garden: An Evening at Giverny" last year and "Leather & Lace" this year. There are hors d'oeuvres during the evening, and usually some entertainment such as someone at the piano, or a small band, etc.

Last year I painted a view of a sunflower field with a cute scarecrow standing guard near the back of the field.
The painting is put into a frame and auctioned during the Live auction segment! The painting was 20"x16" and in a wonderful large gold frame -- and was finally won by a bidder for the amount of $1,600!  The money is all donated to the association!  And . . . You will see how I start a painting, work it up to its finish - and you can ask questions while I am painting, or just stand and watch!!!  It is an event you don't want to miss this year. Contact the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association for the date, place and time and put it on your calendar. A very FUN event!
