Gallery Demontrations in Blue Ridge, Georgia Next Demo -- Saturday, May 1 -- 11:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Come by the gallery in Blue Ridge and see my work. I usually bring in new work about every other month. I also regularly demonstrate my painting techinques in the gallery on a Saturday each month. Be sure to check back for dates coming up in 2010. The gallery is located on East Main Street right across from the railroad station and is easy to find. I don't know if I will be doing a pastel painting or oil painting this time. I am better known for the pastel, but this year I have been doing many more oils. Since I just finished an oil painting workshop with well-known instructor, Ann Templeton, I want to use some of the techniques I learned there. Also, I have been taking my digital photo frame and showing how much easier it is to do a painting from the screen than from a small 4x6 inch photograph. My screen is a 15 inch one. If you can't be outside working from life, this is the next best thing -- I should have said other than real life and other than a plein air study! It is always fun to meet the public and answer questions about my work. Come enjoy the day in Blue Ridge, GA and visit me at the gallery and watch as the painting comes to life. Be sure to visit my blog to see what I am doing in the studio. Also you might learn about upcoming events and shows that might not be updated here on the web site due to time contraints in editing the pages on this web site. Marsha Savage Blog |
| Time: May
8, 2010 to May
9, 2010 Location: Chateau Elan Street: 100 Rue Charlemagne City/Town: Braselton, GA 30517 Website or Map: http://chateauelan.com Phone: 678-425-0900 Chateau Elan is
located north of Atlanta, near Braselton and Commerce, GA -- which is
up Interstate Highway 85 toward South Carolina. The facility is
beautiful and you can imagine the grounds and vineyards. This is
Mother's Day Weekend, and many people will be around. It is a perfect
opportunity to do a paint out and show people what we do as plein air
artists, besides the added bonus of creating for ourselves. Toby Reid
and I are spearheading the venture and he is talking to Chateau Elan
about a future date for a show of our work created there on their
grounds. Join us! Sign up! Discussions can be found on three groups:
Georgia Plein Air, Eastern US Artist Network, and the Southeastern
Pastel Society.

| Here are the
details for the paintout at Chateau Elan -
Saturday and Sunday, May 8 and 9 from 9:00 - 5:00, or later if the
Artist wishes. Go north on I-85 towards Braselton and you will see
signs and the Inn on the left. We will park behind the Winery. The
Winery is the building straight in front of you as you turn into the
property. Take your first right after entering the property towards the
Inn and keep following around until you are behind the Winery. We will
have a table and a clip board for signing in at the parking lot. The Inn (white table cloth) and the Winery (casual) both serve food if anybody wants. It might be a good idea on Mother's Day to check at the Inn if they are doing reservations. There are many restaurants turning left out of the property and a Grocery store. There is one gas station ( BP ) but I would not use it as it is very expensive per gallon. Chateau Elan is not providing anything for us, except to be on their property; so everybody needs to bring what they will need for the two days. There are restrooms in the Winery, Spa and the Inn. I don't know if the Stables have restrooms, but I would guess that they do. There is another property there called Legends at Chateau Elan that has gates with codes to get in and we have not contacted them as it is a private home and golf course division. Please be courteous to the golfers, Spa and tennis folks that will be there. Contact me if you have any questions -- if I don't know the answer I will find out! |
| This show
was
held in the beautiful Richard Low Evans Gallery at the Blue
Ridge Mountains Arts Association. And the good news is I
had two
paintings accepted into this show -- which I consider an honor. We had
almost 500 submitted pieces of
artwork from about 23 states, and about 135 pieces of artwork were
selected by the juror. The show was two-dimensional (paintings, drawings and photography) and three-dimensional (pottery, glass, sculpture and more). There is something for everyone! I also was able to take the 3-day workshop from the juror, Ann Templeton. I do believe she is one of the best workshop instructors I have ever taken from. Look for my artwork to go to the next level of competence after a period of study from this workshop! I know there is much knowledge I took with me from this workshop. |
| The name of my
show was "It's The Journey" and this is my very favorite saying when I
am teaching classes or workshops. It seems to help the students
get over the "precious" paper or canvas -- or even the painting at its
halfway point. I thought it an appropriate name for my show for this
reason -- artists are always taking journeys to paint at different
locations -- but I think we also take many journeys of the mind to
produce our work. The solo show was held in Blue Ridge, GA in the Historic Fannin Courthouse which now houses the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association in August. There were over 100 paintings in pastels, oils and acrylics and the reception was well attended by well over 100 people. People were met and talked to and sales were made. The show was quite successful! |
| Good News!!!! I
had two
paintings accepted into this show -- which I consider an honor. Even
better -- I had my painting "Musical Waters" chosen for the "Second
Best in Show"! The other painting accepted was "The Stand" and it won
the "People's Choice Award!" You can click on the images to see
both of these paintings or from the "Studio Paintings" page of my web
site. The Reception and Awards Presentation was held on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008 from 5:30 - 7:00, at the historic Fannin County Courthouse which houses the Richard Lowe Evans Gallery. There were 160 artists that entered the competition from 23 states -- and when the selection was done, there were 19 states represented in the show. This was a two-dimensional and three dimensional show: paintings, photography, jewelry, sculpture, etc. with eighty pieces of 2D and thirty-six 3D pieces accepted by Mr. Flattmann. We are already planning for the show next year -- deadline for entry will be around the end of July as it was this year. Check out the page for the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association for the current year prospectus. |
A
New "1st Place" Show Winner!
"Where
The
Spirits Dance"
This
is an acrylic painting done on two 4'x3'
gallery wrap canvases for a total size of 4'x6' for a 2007 show called
"BIG"
which was juried by the Tannery Row Artist Colony located in Buford,
GA. It was quite an honor to have my painting win this 1st Place! There
were many wonderful pieces of art that were deserving. I was quite
surprised! |
