Several Smyrna students in day class!
Tuesday -- Morning and Evening Classes now!!!!!

If you wish to be in the next session, spaces do fill up fast. The class will be limited to 8 students for evening and maybe 12 for the day class. My continuing students let me know if they plan to continue in the next session. So . . . I will know very shortly how many spots are remaining. If you are interested, it is of course, first come, first served. I most likely have room for maybe 2 or 3 in the evening class. As of right now, the morning class is probably full, but you should put your name on the waiting list -- there could be a continuing student that might take a six-week session off. Several of my students have been taking from me for 6 or 7 years!
The cost is $140 for the 2-hour evening class and $170 for the 3-hour morning class . Materials can run anywhere from $40 to $100 depending upon what type of pastels you purchase. And, you do need to bring your own easel. Painting is from photographs or still life setups. Weather permitting during spring and fall we try to go outside for a class or two for some "plein air" instruction! The class fills up in a hurry, so if you are interested, please e-mail ASAP at marshasavageart@yahoo.com ! A $50 deposit is required to assure you a spot in the class, assure me that you are serious, and a supply list will be sent. Normally the deposit is due at least two weeks before the session starts . . . so . . . if you are interested, please e-mail me and we will see at that time if I have enough room to accommodate new students.
Sessions are six weeks and are basic studio painting sessions. Instruction is continuous and appropriate for beginners and advanced students as each student receives individual instruction and critiques. I also do demonstrations at least a couple of times each session. If you are interested in painting in oil or acrylic, you can take this class also. Occasionally, I have had students take my class or workshops and paint in either oil or acrylic. I paint in all three mediums, but have focused on teaching pastel for the past several years. My teaching is basic principles of good painting and does apply to all mediums. Emphasis is on application of the medium, with value, temperature and color a strong second! Of course, we never forget to think about composition, drawing, and aerial perspective.
Remember, returning students are
given priority, but
there is usually space available for a couple of new students each
session. I encourage my
long-time students that
it is
advantageous to take from different teachers at times. Classes are on a
continuing basis through
the year, but with a flexible schedule due to holidays and travel /
workshops.
I have been teaching in Smyrna for
about seven years, previously at Concord Gallery and for about a year
and a half
before that at the Mable House located between Smyrna and Mableton, GA.
The Concord Gallery closed its doors just before Thanksgiving in 2004,
so I
am now holding classes with the City of Smyrna at their
Community
Center located in downtown Smyrna on Atlanta Road.
